Compliance intelligence dashboard for Metrc track-and-trace integration

Metrc Dashboard Guide

The Formul8 Metrc Platform is a compliance intelligence dashboard that provides an intuitive interface for interacting with Metrc's track-and-trace system. It is available to Operator and Team tier subscribers.

URL: metrc.formul8.ai

Prerequisites

To use the Metrc Dashboard, you need:

  1. An active Formul8 subscription at the Operator or Team tier
  2. A valid Metrc license in a supported state
  3. Metrc API credentials (vendor key and user key) configured by your Formul8 account administrator

If you are not yet on the Operator or Team tier, see Pricing & Plans to upgrade.

Signing In

  1. Navigate to metrc.formul8.ai
  2. Sign in with your Google account (the same account used for F8Chat and the Dashboard)
  3. You will be directed to the facility selection screen

Sign in with Google OAuth, then select your licensed facility from the list.

Facility Selection

The Metrc Platform is facility-scoped — all data and operations are viewed in the context of a specific licensed facility.

  1. After signing in, you will see a list of facilities associated with your Metrc credentials
  2. Select the facility you want to work with
  3. The dashboard loads data for that facility

You can switch facilities at any time using the facility selector in the navigation header.

The facility selector dropdown in the navigation header lists all facilities linked to your Metrc credentials.

Dashboard Overview

The main dashboard provides a high-level view of your facility's compliance status and inventory.

Key Sections

SectionWhat It Shows
PackagesActive, on-hold, and inactive packages in your facility
PlantsVegetative and flowering plant counts, batch tracking
TransfersIncoming, outgoing, and in-transit transfer manifests
SalesSales receipts and transaction records
Compliance AlertsProactive notifications about items requiring attention
AnalyticsTrends, summaries, and compliance metrics

The main dashboard shows Packages, Plants, Transfers, Sales, Compliance Alerts, and Analytics as navigable sections.

Inventory Views

Packages

The Packages view shows all cannabis packages in your facility, organized by status:

  • Active — Packages currently in inventory and available for transfer or sale
  • On Hold — Packages flagged by Metrc or placed on hold by the facility
  • Inactive — Packages that have been fully transferred, sold, or destroyed

Each package displays:

  • Package tag (Metrc UID)
  • Product name and category
  • Quantity and unit of measure
  • Lab testing status
  • Last modified date

You can filter packages by status, category, date range, and search by tag number or product name.

The Packages list includes filter controls for status, category, and date range, with search by tag number or product name.

Plants

The Plants view tracks individual plants and plant batches through their lifecycle:

  • Vegetative — Plants in the vegetative growth phase
  • Flowering — Plants that have been transitioned to flowering
  • Harvested — Plants that have been harvested (with associated harvest batch)

Each plant entry shows the strain, plant tag, planting date, growth phase, and associated batch.

Transfers

The Transfers view manages the movement of packages between facilities:

  • Incoming — Transfers destined for your facility
  • Outgoing — Transfers you have sent to other facilities
  • In Transit — Transfers currently in transit

Each transfer shows the manifest number, origin/destination, package count, and status.

Sales

The Sales view records point-of-sale transactions reported to Metrc, including customer type (medical, recreational), quantities, and transaction dates.

Compliance Alerts

The Compliance Alerts section proactively identifies items that need attention. Common alerts include:

Alert TypeDescription
Packages on holdPackages flagged by Metrc — may need lab testing or documentation
Expiring lab resultsPackages with lab tests approaching or past expiration
Incomplete transfersTransfers not yet received or confirmed
Inventory discrepanciesMismatches between reported and expected quantities
Missing documentationPackages or transfers lacking required paperwork

Alerts are prioritized by severity and include recommended actions.

Compliance alerts are listed by severity with recommended actions and direct links to the affected packages or transfers.

AI Copilot

The AI Copilot is a natural-language interface for interacting with your Metrc data. It combines the intelligence of Formul8's agents with real-time access to your facility's Metrc information.

What the AI Copilot Can Do

Read operations (ask questions about your data):

  • "How many active packages do I have?"
  • "Show me all packages on hold"
  • "What transfers are expected this week?"
  • "Which packages have expiring lab results?"
  • "What is my current inventory of edibles?"

Write operations (make changes to your Metrc data):

  • "Create a new package from these items"
  • "Record a sale for this package"
  • "Submit a transfer manifest to facility X"
  • "Update the quantity on this package"

Accessing the AI Copilot

The AI Copilot is available in two ways:

  1. Floating widget — A chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of every dashboard page. Click it to open a quick chat panel for questions about the data on your current screen.

  2. Full-page assistant — Navigate to the dedicated AI Copilot page for a full-screen chat experience with more space for complex queries and multi-step operations.

The floating Copilot widget appears as a chat bubble in the bottom-right corner. Click it to open a quick chat panel. The full-page Copilot view provides a dedicated screen for complex queries and multi-step operations.

Preview, Confirm, Execute Workflow

Every write operation in the Metrc Platform follows a three-step safety workflow. This prevents accidental changes to your Metrc data.

Step 1: Preview

When you initiate a change (either through the AI Copilot or through the UI), the platform shows a detailed preview of what will happen:

  • What data will be created, modified, or deleted
  • The Metrc API call that will be made
  • Any validation warnings (e.g., missing fields, potential compliance issues)

The Preview step displays the exact Metrc API call that will be made, the data that will be created or modified, and any validation warnings.

Step 2: Confirm

After reviewing the preview, you explicitly confirm the operation. This is a deliberate action — the platform does not auto-execute changes.

  • Review all details in the preview
  • Check for any warnings or validation issues
  • Click Confirm to proceed or Cancel to abort

Step 3: Execute

After confirmation, the platform executes the operation against the Metrc API. You will see:

  • A success confirmation with the Metrc response
  • The updated data reflected in the dashboard
  • An entry in the ActionLog with full audit details

If the operation fails (e.g., Metrc API error, validation rejection), you receive a clear error message explaining what went wrong and suggested remediation.

ActionLog — Audit Trail

Every action taken through the Metrc Platform is recorded in the ActionLog, providing a complete audit trail.

What the ActionLog Records

FieldDescription
TimestampWhen the action was performed
UserWho performed the action
Action typeWhat was done (create, update, delete, transfer, sale)
TargetWhich package, plant, or transfer was affected
DetailsFull before/after state of the data
ResultSuccess or failure, with Metrc API response

Viewing the ActionLog

Access the ActionLog from the main navigation. You can filter by:

  • Date range
  • User
  • Action type
  • Target entity (package tag, transfer manifest, etc.)
  • Result (success/failure)

The ActionLog shows timestamped entries with user, action type, target, and result. Filters allow narrowing by date, user, action type, and outcome.

The ActionLog is immutable — entries cannot be edited or deleted. This ensures a reliable audit trail for compliance purposes.

Analytics

The Analytics section provides visual summaries and trends across compliance dimensions:

  • Package volume over time (active, created, destroyed)
  • Transfer activity (incoming vs. outgoing)
  • Compliance alert trends (improving or worsening)
  • Sales volume and patterns
  • Lab testing status distribution

The Analytics section provides line charts for package volume over time, bar charts for transfer activity, and compliance score trend indicators.

Tips for Using the Metrc Dashboard

Use the AI Copilot for complex queries. Instead of manually filtering through packages, ask the Copilot: "Show me all active flower packages with lab results expiring in the next 30 days."

Check compliance alerts daily. The alerts section surfaces issues proactively. Addressing them promptly prevents compliance problems from escalating.

Review before confirming. The Preview step is there for safety. Always read the details before confirming a write operation, especially for transfers and sales.

Use the ActionLog for audit preparation. Before a compliance audit, export the ActionLog for the relevant date range to demonstrate complete traceability.

Troubleshooting

"I cannot see my facilities"

Your Metrc API credentials may not be configured or may have expired. Contact your Formul8 account administrator or reach out to support@formul8.ai.

"A write operation failed"

Check the error message — common causes include:

  • The Metrc API is temporarily unavailable (try again in a few minutes)
  • Missing required fields in the operation
  • Insufficient Metrc permissions for your user key
  • Business validation rules (e.g., attempting to transfer a package that is on hold)

"My data looks outdated"

The dashboard fetches data from the Metrc API. If you made changes directly in Metrc's own interface, the dashboard may take a moment to reflect them. Refresh the page to pull the latest data.
